Our mission: To balance the health, safety, and welfare needs of canines in the Central Texas area by providing nourishment and a safe environment for unwanted, stray, abused, and impounded Boxers. Once placed in new homes they become more than just pets, they become family.
Odessa was busted out of a shelter in -- guess where? -- Odessa, Texas. She made the long trip across Texas to the safe arms of an ABR foster family. Now that she’s safe, this fawn cutie has found her voice and likes to “talk” to her foster family...it is adorable! Odessa has a lumbar vertebrae that is shorter than normal, which causes rear leg instability, affecting her coordination and occasionally causing her to fall. Although she finds stairs & tile floors a little more difficult to maneuver than most dogs, Odessa is otherwise quite capable! She is excellent with other dogs, even small dogs, and interacts wonderfully with children, although she would likely do best in a home with older children who recognize her limitations. Odessa even gets along with cats! At times she may be a little too interested, but is easily corrected. Odessa is crate-trained, housebroken (will even signal if she needs out!), and walks well on a leash.
This low-energy gal enjoys car rides, short walks, and romping with her foster brother, as long as she has time for quick breaks during playtime. She loves to cuddle and is so happy when her foster parents sit down so that she can curl up for some snuggle time! She loves round toys and has a favorite that she carries around so much that her foster mom calls it "her binky". Odessa is very vocal when she plays and is always “talking” to someone (or something). Overall, Odessa is a well-mannered dog, who rarely requires correction and would love to show you her sweet, goofy side. She is expected to do well as the only dog in a home or in a home with another low- to medium- energy dog like her. Odessa’s weight and playtime with other dogs should be monitored so her medical issues aren’t made worse. Although she may not make a great running partner, this girl has a heart as big as West Texas and is ready to find her forever family to love!
