Campbell is a very special dog. He came into rescue about three months ago as one of several dogs we took in from Brownsville. We are just now preparing his bio, because his personality is just starting to emerge. Campbell is very special to his foster mom, because about a month ago no one gave him much hope of surviving, but she did not want to give up on him. In a very short period of time, Campbell's weight dropped from 50 lbs. to 40 lbs. He was in the pet hospital for over two weeks, receiving fluids by IV, but his health still continued to decline. His eyes were glazed over, he was losing fur, and he seemed very depressed and confused, not seeming to know even where he was. No one could identify what was wrong with him, but his foster mom began spoon feeding him, letting him outside to lay in the sun, and showing him lots of love even though he acted as though he just wanted to be alone.

Then one day about a month ago everything changed. He began to act hungry. His foster mom was so excited when he ate a whole can of food, and she knew he was on his way back. He has since gained most of his weight back and loves his food! His coat is looking good again, and he actually likes to run outside (it's more of a trot than a full out run). He is becoming happier and healthier with each passing day. His foster mom is so happy she hung in there for him and is enjoying watching his personality blossom. Campbell is still a bit shy, but enjoys it when someone gets down on the floor and plays with him. He does seem to know that the worst is behind him.

Campbell is very well behaved, and even while he was so sick, he was house and crate trained. When he needs to go out, he goes and stands by the door to let you know he wants out. He shows no interest in cats, is good with other dogs, and should be fine with kids. Because of the trauma he has been through, it may be best that he go to a calmer household, maybe one with somewhat older kids that won't play too rough with him.

His foster is bringing Campbell to adoption days, so if you would like to meet him, please stop by. It is very important that Campbell's new family or owner make a life long commitment to him and not let him down again as his previous owners did. Because of his personality and history, we will be very careful to ensure we place him in an environment where he can thrive from this point forward. Campbell has one more hurdle to overcome; he is heartworm positive and will begin treatment in mid-January. So please check back, as we will be posting more updates on Campbell.

Heartworm Status: Positive
